Which of the following is the most important…
This may surprise you, but I believe that both of them are important - Prayer and Performance.
Nehemiah 4:9 says, “But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.”
As the Israelites repaired the walls around Jerusalem, their enemies had threatened to attack. But carefully observe what Nehemiah did - “We prayed to our God” and “posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.”
Do you see what they did? They prayed and performed. They prayed - as if everything was left up to God. They performed – as if everything was left up to them.
Powerful, wouldn’t you agree?
How often do we pray, but never perform? We pray for a lost person to be saved, but never teach him the gospel.
We pray for missionaries on “foreign soils,” but never send them encouraging notes. We pray for the sick to get better, but never offer a helping hand. We pray for better homes, but are unwilling to change bad habits. We pray for a closer walk with God, but skip worship services. We pray … but seldom perform.
Let’s be like Nehemiah. Let’s pray - and then post a guard. Pray and perform.
The psalmist put it like this: “Trust in the Lord and do good” (Psalm 37:3).
“Trust in the Lord” - pray. “Do good” - perform.
