I heard Louis Giglio say once that following God is about trading a starring role in a tiny story for any role in the biggest, most incredible story of all time.
I think he’s exactly right.
When I sign on to follow God I’m bailing on my story and jumping into His, just grateful to have a place—any place—in it.
So how does that translate into real change in my every day world?
- My first thought stops being “What’s best for me in this moment?” and starts being “What’s best for God in this moment?”
- I become a lot more concerned about funding His agenda than I am about funding mine.
- I constantly look to him to find out what my role is, since I’m not writing the script.
There are others, but that’s a pretty good start.
Here’s a question for you though—based on the way you live/think/spend/etc., would it be more accurate to say that you’re a part of God’s story or that God’s a part of yours?
I want my prayer to be the prayer of Isaiah 26:8:
“Yes, LORD, …your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.”
